Patriot Day - September 11, 2006

On September 11, 2001, thousands of people died as a result of horrific terrorist attacks on this country. On December 18th, 2001, Congress, by a joint resolution, designated September 11 as Patriot Day, in honor of the victims and heroes of that day. The joint resolution requests that the President issue a proclamation each year calling upon citizens to mark the day with a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 AM eastern daylight time, the moment when the first attack occurred, and with appropriate ceremonies, services, activities and the flying of the United States flag at half-staff.
