Let Honolulu Vote Update

Aloha all - Time to share some LET HONOLULU VOTE (LHV) news with all of you and to ask for a little feedback.

TV STARS? Paul Smith and I were interviewed by Malia Zimmerman, of Hawaii Reporter, for her Olelo television program News Behind the News. It will air next Monday, February 19, at 6PM on Channel 54. Malia's program will give us some valuable visibility. And the program will include some information that may help you explain to people what we're doing and why. The program schedule also can be found on our website.

I invite you to visit Malia's website, HAWAIIREPORTER.COM. Malia provides an excellent news source and has generously posted an LHV link on her website.

SIGNATURE COLLECTION EVENTS. Speaking of websites, we now plan to post signature collection events on our website, LETHNONOLULUVOTE.ORG. We want people to know where they can go to sign our petition. So when you schedule a signature collection event at a local mall or merchant, or even your church or social group, let us know and we'll post it. We'll also post the name and location of malls and stores that cooperate with us. That recognition may bring them more business, and may give you more leverage when you're asking for permission to collect on their premises.

Please remember, when a mall or store lets you collect, be considerate of vehicles and customers. We don't want to interfere with traffic flow - we want to be courteous guests who will be invited back again.

Events to be posted on the website should be passed along to Paul Smith, at lethonoluluvote@aol.com.

PETITION KITS. We have distributed more than 30 petition kits, which include petition forms, instructions and explanations, a table showing recent tax increases, volunteer cards, bumper stickers and voter registration forms. If any of you need more supplies, or have recruited volunteers who need supplies, let me know. I can be reached at 922-6188, or 381-4799.

ROAD SHOW. Please remember that both Paul Smith and I are available to address your groups to explain our effort.

MILESTONES. We won't be able to get our initiative on the ballot until November 2008. But the City Budget process occurs this summer. If by June we have enough signatures to qualify for the ballot, that will send a powerful message to the City Administration and the City Council. So I encourage each of you to collect, collect, collect.

HOW ARE WE DOING? We often get asked how many signatures we've collected so far. So we need occasional feedback from each of you to let us know how you're doing. And if there's something we can do to help you. Call us or email us occasionally with updates.

Mahalo to all of you for your help.
